Meet the Team

Robert and Tyler’s journey began in the Marriage & Family Therapy program at Trevecca Nazarene University. Their friendship was forged over sizzling plates of fajitas at a local Mexican restaurant. Shared laughter and moments of vulnerability revealed their aligned sense of empathy for others. This connection paved the way for Clarity Therapy. With humor and a deep bond at the core of their partnership, Robert and Tyler bring a unique and lighthearted approach to therapy, ensuring that every session is both comfortable and enjoyable.

  • Robert Russell, MMFT, is a co-founder of Clarity Therapy. He is pursuing licensure in the state of Tennessee for Marriage & Family Therapy, under the supervision of Dr. Sara Hopkins, LMFT, license 928.

With ties to East Tennessee, Robert is always up for an outdoor adventure. A dreamer at heart, he is also a dedicated swim dad—so much so that you might catch a hint of chlorine if you get too close! Robert and his wife spend most of their time chasing their kids around Tennessee, attending their daughter’s concerts or their two boys’ swim meets.

Robert leverages neuroscience and evidence-based research to support his work in attachment and story. He believes that confusion promotes unhealthy fear and that shame impairs connection and clarity. His practice is deeply influenced by his training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the insights of renowned experts such as Gabor Maté, Brené Brown, and Esther Perel. He specializes in a wide range of issues, from alleviating anxiety and depression to enhancing relationships through improved communication and deeper emotional connections.

With a background in ministry that fuels his passion for community and connection, Robert brings over 15 years of counseling and leadership experience from his ministry work to his therapeutic practice. He understands that life often presents a blur of emotions, choices, and experiences, which can leave us feeling uncertain, disconnected, and unable to make decisions that align with our deepest needs and values. Robert believes that trust is a by-product of vulnerability, and he is dedicated to helping clients embrace this vulnerability to build deeper, more meaningful connections.

Robert is committed to helping clients navigate through the noise, find clarity, and boldly move forward to a life beyond the blur.
